Three Arrested In Catalytic Converter Thefts Detectives from the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office have been investigating the theft and sales of catalytic converters.
With the the help of the Michigan State Police from the Reed City post, Sheriff deputies were able to arrest three suspects that were in involved in the breaking and entering of Phil's Auto Parts, a crime that took place in late April of this year. The thieves took catalytic converters from the business so they could sell them.

Two Tourist Involved In Big Rapids Car Crash Big Rapids - Two Tourist visiting from the state of Washington were driving west on Perry Avenue Friday afternoon.
As they were passing the Wal-mart store, an 18 year old Mecosta woman pulled out of the Wal-mart parking lot and ran into their car.
One of the two tourist suffered minor injury's and was taken to the Mecosta County Hospital for treatments.
The accident was investigated by the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Deputies Arrest Two Breaking And Entering Suspects In Morley Morley Michigan - Around 2:40 AM this morning, Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies Reported to the Village of Morley to investigate a breaking and entering of a garage.
According to Deputy Victor Vandertol the on scene investigation led to a search warrant being served to a 28 year old male suspect from Big Rapids and a 21 year old male suspect from Morley.

Mecosta County News Reports For The Week Starting Monday June 23, 2008
Twenty seven year old Andrew Thomas Bennett of Big Rapids made an appearance in court wearing jail fatigues with his court appointed attorney Dennis Duvall. Bennett pleaded "no contest" to count 1 and count 5 of the assault crimes that he committed at the Big Rapids cinema back in December of 2007. In an exchange for his plea, the prosecuting attorney will drop counts 2,3,4, and 6 and recommend a 4 to 15 year sentence for Bennett. He will appear in court on July 21, 2008 for sentencing
Thirty five year old Jerrold James Dudick of Morley was found guilty back on May 12, 2008 for a third offense drunk driving charge. Dudick was sentenced to 45 day's in jail and given credit for one day served. He will also be put on a tether for three months after he is released from jail and spend three years on probation.
Twenty seven year old Geraldine Inez Wentworth of Morley was sentenced to 90 day's in jail for his crime of possessing more than 12 grams of a drug called Edhedrine. Wentworth's jail time was suspended as long as he completes a drug treatment program. He will also spend two years on probation and pay $635.00 in fines. Twenty eight year old Robert Eugene Strickfaden Jr. of Newaygo was sentence to five months and 15 day's for the same crime. he was given credit for 41 day's served.
