Big Rapids Woman Files False Police Report

 On 05/08/07 Artlitha Gidron of Big Rapids walked into the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety Building and filed a report that her car had been stolen. She said that she left her car running behind her garage while she was getting ready to go grocery shopping. When she came outside to leave she discovered the car was gone. 

 The next day a Big Rapids Pubic Safety officer received a call from a Lake County Deputy he said that a women called and told him that Gidron had dropped a car off at her house to have her husband work on it. She told Gidron that her husband was not home at the time, but Gidron could leave the car behind the house. The women said later on Gidron called the couple telling them to push the car back into the woods, because she had reported it stolen the day before. They thought this was odd, so they called the police.

 A Big Rapids Public Safety Officer contacted Gidron and asked her to come back to the Public Safety Building to talk about the statements that were made by the couple, but Gidron did not show up. The police made more attempts to contact Gidron, she finally did come in to discuss the matter, Artlitha Gidron denied all the statements that were made by the witnesses.

 After the investigation was over a warrant was issued for Gidron’s arrest for filing the false police report. About a month or so later, the police were interviewing Gidron involving some unreturned rental property when they discovered her arrest warrant. She was then taken to the Mecosta County Jail for booking. Later she was found guilty of “Making A False Police Report Of A Felony” {MCL 750.411a} a 4 year felony. On 01/14/08 Artlitha Renee Gidron was sentenced to 60 days in jail, and given credit for 3 day's that she had already served. Artlitha Gidron was also given a fine in the amount of $774.80
