The Northland Soccer Club has started on the earth moving for their new soccer complex at River Street Park. Topsoil is being stockpiled on the east side to overlay the ground once the final elevation has been bulldozed. Completion of this portion of the project is anticipated within two weeks.
DOWNTOWN VSCI PROGRAM
Bids have been finalized for the Wayfinding portion of the project and the Art Works is nearly complete. The façade project is progressing and the locally manufactured benches have been delivered.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Trojan’s consultant on UV installations has been scheduled for the last week of July. We look forward to Sherri Bos’ report in our continuing research effort in making the UV system more effective. We continue to consult closely with the DEQ, Trojan, Prein and Newhof and Bruce Everitt on these issues. The plant has now operated for eight consecutive months without violation.
MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE CONFERENCE
Director Frank West attended the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police this week, continuing his liaison with that organization and learning new trends in the business and approaches in community safety.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM

ACTIVITIES
-Jim Taylor attended annual MDOT meeting for the Traffic Safety Grant. This program appropriates pay for officers to work specific projects aimed at assisting in traffic and drug interdiction.
-Officer Jesse (police horse) has been given a ‘clean bill of health’ and will be participating in July 4 events!
-Roxanne Johnson (part-time, income tax clerk) has submitted a resignation to pursue other
opportunities with benefits. She has been such a valued employee and will be missed.
-Remember the July 4th activities at the Airport!!!!
PUBLIC WORKS ACTIVITIES
The week of June 21st brought us many hot and humid days with the hottest making it up to 94 degrees. The Community Swimming Pool was very the entire week. The City Parks are busy with all types. Many people are using the Muskegon River for staying cool by canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.
