The Red Bank Crack Down

 Monmouth County New Jarsey - On April 11, 2008, Thirty five year old Diron Wright of Red Bank N.J., was sentenced to 30 year's in prison with a 15 year period of parole ineligibility.

 On March 4, 2008, a jury convicted Wright of 3 counts of third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, 3 counts of second degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, 3 counts of second degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and 1 count of first degree maintaining and operating a controlled dangerous substance production facility.

 During Wright's three day long trial, evidence showed that Wright sold crack cocain to an undercover Drug Enforcement officer on three different ocasion's. During one of these transactions, the undercover agent saw Wright cooking crack cocain in the kitchen of his apartment.

 Because of Wright's past criminal history, the Monmouth County Prosecutor filed a motion to have Wright sentenced to a life term in prison with a 25 year parole disqualifier. The judge in the case, granted the motion to sentence Wright to an extended sentence but refused to impose the life sentence.

 Diron Wright, is already serving a 14 year prison sentence from a different case, "possession of cocain with intent to distribute". The Judge ordered that his new sentence run consecutive with that case.

 According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin "Wright's criminal conduct was motivated primarily by the profit motive. This sentence sends a clear message to drug dealers like Wright who manufacture and distribute cocain that the cost of doing business in the Monmouth County community will be a lengthy prison sentence. This sentence will punish Wright and at the same time protect the public from him."
