Monmouth County NJ, - On May 2, 2008, Forty seven year Kathlene DeMichele of Manasquan New Jersey was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of her nine year old son Charles DeMichele.
On March 17, 2008, DeMichele pleaded guilty, and admitted to murdering her son by stabbing him with a knife multiple times.
The incident took place back on March 20,2007, when officer's responded to a 911 call at DeMichele's apartment in Manasquan. Upon arrival they found her nine year old son Charles DeMichele in a van outside the building bleeding profusely. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Results from an autopsy revealed that his death was caused from multiple stab wounds.
His mother Kathlene DeMichele, who had self-inflicted wounds was transported to the hospital were she was later arrested and charged with the crime while she was still hospitalized.
After being released from the hospital she was taken to the Monmouth County Jail and held in lieu of a $1,000,000 bail.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin stated, "This tragic crime has resulted in a tremendous loss for the family and the entire community. With this sentence DeMichele was held responsible for her actions, and she will serve an appropriate and significant term of imprisonment."
The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Laurie B. Gerhardt.
