Michigan Man Charged For Molotov Cocktails | |||||||||||||

A 23-year-old Michigan man was charged last week in federal court for illegally possessing Molotov cocktails. He allegedly intended to use them at the Republican National Convention. According to an FBI press release Matthew Bradley DePalma of Flint Michigan was charged August 30,2008 for one count of possessing firearms that were not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Records. The press release stated that the FBI became aware of DePalma when he attended the CrimeThinc Convergence near Waldo Wisconsin. An FBI affidavit stated that DePalma went to the Hennepin County Library on August 18th, and spent 90 minutes researching recipes for explosive devices. DePalma made a handwritten list of items he would need to construct Molotov cocktails that would stick to people and other targets. Recorded conversations with DePalma from August 20, 2008, described a plan to enter the tunnels near the Republican National Convention Center and use either Molotov cocktails or a chemical bomb to destroy electrical cables and cause a power outage. The affidavit states that DePalma possessed a total of five Molotov cocktails between August 22-28th. | |||||||||||||
