Big Rapids MI, - On November 6, 2007, Thirty three year old Timothy James Cousins Jr. of Paris Michigan walked into the Huntington Bank in Big Rapids.
He was wearing a ski-mask, waving a gun, and carrying a plastic shopping bag yelling "You have ten seconds to give me all of your money."
After fleeing the bank, Cousins went to Wal-marts where he met some relatives and showed them a large sum of cash.
Following an investigation by police Timothy James Cousins Jr. was arrested a week or so later and taken to the Mecosta County Jail.
He was arraigned for three counts of armed robbery and three counts of bank robbery and his bail was set for 100 thousand dollars.
On April 22, 2008, Cousins excepted a plea deal from prosecutes and pleaded no contest to an amended count 4 of bank robbery, a twelve year maximum cap was set by the prosecution for this charge.
As part of the plea deal Cousins also pleaded no contest to an amended count 1 of armed robbery, were he was given a twenty year maximum cap by the prosecution.
Each count originally carried a maximum of life in prison. Cousins plea of "no contest" means that he did not admit guilt but will except the punishment. He remains at the Mecosta County jail and will be sentenced on May 19, 2008.
According to court documents Cousins is an habitual offender with an assault with a dangerous weapon charge in 1996, a posses or sell stolen fire arms charge in 1999 and a resisting or obstructing the police charge in 2005.
On Tuesday May 27, 2008 Timothy James Cousins Jr. was sentenced to serve a 12 to 20 year sentence for count one, and a nine and a half to twenty year sentence for count 4. Both sentences will run congruently, meaning he could be released in ten or twelve years.
