Barryton Bar Bandits Sentenced |

On Wednesday May 27, 2009, the Barryton police reported that sometime in the morning after 2:00 a.m., Murphy's Bar in Barryton was broken into.
The report stated that $400 in cash and several bottles of alcohol were taken from the bar.
Later the police reported that three men were arrested on felony warrants for the break-in at Murphy's Bar. Twenty-two year old Daniel Sherburne who had 3 prior misdemeanor larceny convictions, and one prior felony breaking and entering conviction. Another suspect by the name of Tyler Tennant was arrested and about a week later 19-year old Justin Quick was arrested and lodged at the Mecosta County Jail.

Twenty-two year old Daniel Scott Sherburne from Big Rapids - pleaded guilty to "Receiving and Concealing" stolen property and "Breaking and Entering" with intent. On Monday October 19, 2009, Sherburne received one concurrent six-month jail sentence for each crime. Sherburne was given $1778.00 in fines for one sentence and $1478.00 for the other, he will spend 3-years on probation. Sherburne was accused of the May 27th "Breaking and Entering" at Murphy's Bar, the June 29th crime of breaking into a shed at the Pit Stop Grocery, and a boat theft that took place around June 16, 2009. |
| On October 19, 2009, Nineteen-year old Justin Clay Quick from Mt. Pleasant, pleaded "no contest" to one count of "Breaking and Entering with Intent." As part of his plea, another charge of "Breaking and Entering with Intent" was dismissed at his sentencing that took place on November 16, 2009. Quick was accused of partaking in the break-in on May 27th at Murphy's Bar and a boat theft. He was sentenced to six-months in jail and received 29-days of jail credit. |

Tyler Tennant testified at a preliminary hearing that he, Quick, and Sherburne, were walking around the town of Barryton late one night when one of them came up with the idea to break-in to Murphy's Bar located at 32 North Avenue. According to this testimony, Sherburne used a rock to break out a window and the threesome where able to make off with some alcohol that they stashed in an abandon shed.

On Friday, November 6th, The Mecosta County Building Inspector deemed Murphy's Bar as "Unsafe," and closed it for business until new architectural plans are developed, the correct improvements to the building are made, and the building is deemed safe.
