Twenty six-year old Alonzo Al Stepheny from Mecosta was sentenced to 7-months and 15-days in jail for "Police Officer Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing." Stepheny was ordered to pay $628.00 in fines and spend 36-months on probation. One charge of "same as above" and one charge of "domestic violence" was dismissed in Stepheny's case. The court also directed Stepheny to an in-patient treatment program where he could receive day-to-day jail credit.
Thirty-three year old Michael James Strait from Paris was sentenced to: 2 to 7-years in prison for "motor vehicle unlawful driving away." Strait is an habitual offender with prier convictions of "home invasion" and "Larceny in a Building." On November 3, 2009, he was sentenced in the county of Newaygo to 4 to 30-years for "Home Invasion - 2nd Degree," and 2 to 4-years for "Police Officer Assault/Resist/Obstruct."
Forty-one year old Mario Ramiro Guevara from Stanwood pleaded "no contest" to "Assault with a Dangerous Weapon" (a hunting Knife.) The prosecutor's office is recommending a no prison jail sentence for Guevara, and that he be released early to a substance abuse treatment program, where he could receive day-to-day jail credit. Charges of being a "Disorderly Person Drunk" and "Dangerous Weapon Carrying with Unlawful Intent" were dismissed in his case. A sentencing will be held for Guevara on December 21, 2009.
