(November 2, 1934 - March 7, 2010) "You were a treasure and a blessing for all of us and will be dearly missed." Edward E. Gilman, age 75 of Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 7, 2010. He was born on November 2, 1934 in Garfield Twp., Clare Co., MI to J.B. and Margaret (Phillips) Gilman. Ed graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1953 and enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He was honorable discharged in 1958 and married Carolyn Bazaire of Lake on March 21, 1958. He was a lifelong resident of the Lake area with the exception of a few months spent doing special construction jobs at Wind Cave Nat’l Park in S. Dakota, Cheyenne Airport in Cheyenne, WY and Jackson Hole Information Center, Jackson Hole, WY. Ed had a talent for mushrooming and liked family cookouts, hunting, fishing, swimming at Crawford Landing on the Muskegon River and riding around looking for wildlife. He leaves his wife of 51 years Carolyn, sons; Lonny (Wendy) of Remus, Mark of Lake, Tony (Rita) of Lake, daughters; Lesly (Tim) Pounder of St. Francis, MN and April (Brad) Newsom of Lake, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, beloved sister Thelma Squires of Lake and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Minnie Tucker, brother; Charles Gilman and great granddaughter Paisley Drew Finney. Memorial services for Ed will take place at 11AM on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Brinton Chapel (corner of Brinton Rd. and Stevenson Lake Rd.) with Pastor Jim Weber officiating.
