Allegan County MI News - On the evening of December 4th, around 6:40 PM, the Allegan County Central Dispatch received several calls regarding a crash that had taken place on US-131 just north of Plainwell Road in Gun Township.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff's Department, A witness stated that one of the cars involved in the crash was on fire and that another car was still on the roadway blocking a travel lane. Officers arrived on scene along with the Gun Plains Township fire department and extinguished the car fire.
Deputies from the sheriff's office did an initial investigation that they say indicated that a witness saw a full size Ford Van leave the roadway and then come back onto the roadway and spin out of control before coming to rest on the travel lanes of southbound US-131.
A news release stated that the witness pulled to the side of the road and called 911 to report the crash. As the witness was on the phone, a car smashed into the van; went off the road, and crashed into a fence that was part of a nearby business. That's when the car went into flames, the witness told sheriff's deputies.
The woman driving the car, 83-year-old Barbara Almina Foster from Kalamazoo, was the only occupant, and deputies said she suffered severe injuries. Ms. Foster was taken to Borges/Pipp hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the van, 45-year-old Sue Ann Kroft from Kalamazoo, had her boyfriend's 14-year-old son riding with her as a passenger. The two were taken to Borgess Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, and released.
