Man That Shot At Deputies During Pharmacy Break-In Found Guilty

Blair Township MI News - Grand Traverse County Undersheriff Nate Alger has reported that the man who shot at two deputies during a botched break-in at the Medicap Pharmacy has been found guilty by a jury today.

26-year-old ex-con Parker Ayers who might be sentenced in February, will likly return to prison after being found guilty of two counts of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of breaking and entering, one count of felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony, and being a habitual offender.

Alger said: "We believe it is the Jury's responsibility to determine what the facts of the case are and which charges have been supported through testimony and evidence. The convictions passed down by the Jury are significant and we appreciate their attention to this case."

The Sheriff's Office believes that Parker Ayres intended to shoot and kill the deputies on the morning of the incident. Alger believes this is due to the fact that Ayres after breaking into the pharmacy returned to his vehicle and when he realized his vehicle was disabled, he took the guns back into the pharmacy.

On September 23rd, around 1:00 AM, deputies were responding to an alarm at the Medicap Pharmacy, and found two suspects in the building, 28-year-old Whitney Marie McNett and Parker Ayers.

After being ordered to come out of the building, Ayers fired a gunshot at one deputy, turned his gun to another deputy, and fired a shot at him as well, according to Alger.

The standoff went on until around 5:00 AM, when police entered the pharmacy and found Ayers and McNett "incapacitated" with two empty bottles of methadone tablets near by, reported the Traverse City Record Eagle.

Deputies scooped up three handguns, and the doped-up-couple was taken to the hospital where they recovered, and later taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail.

On November 9th, 2011, McNett was given a 3-to-10-year prison sentence for "Breaking & Entering a Building With Intent."
