Grand Rapids MI News - Police have released the name of a 56-year-old man who is said to have bit off a woman's nose in the 700 block of Fifth Street, in Grand Rapids yesterday evening.
According to Grand Rapids Police, an argument broke-out between the two at a party, and Stephen Medawis allegedly bit off the lower part of the woman's nose.
The 44-year-old woman went to a nearby party store, called police, and reported the incident shortly after 9:00 PM.
Medawis was arrested a short time later, and the woman was taken to the hospital, where she will most likely need reconstructive surgery.
Lt. Scott Weitzel from the Grand Rapids Police Department told the Smoking Gun that officers recovered a severed piece of the woman's nose from a staircase landing at the apartment building where the nose biting fight took place.
Police believe that alcohol played a role in the nose biting incident, and say that 56-year-old Stephen Medawis may face a felony charge of assault with intent to maim. He is being held at the Kent County Jail on a $50000.00 bond, along with being charged as a habitual offender.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Medawis has prior convictions of Weapons - Felony Firearms, Operating Intoxicated/Impaired/Controlled Substance - 3rd, Police Officer, Resisting & Obstructing, Assault With Intent To Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, and Armed Robbery as well as other alcohol related offenses.

In another nose biting incident that took place on an up north Indian reservations in Baraga County, 41-year-old Donalyn Lynette Taisto was sentenced yesterday to 46-months in prison.
Prosecutors said Taisto bit off the tip of a man's nose, cut him with a knife, hit him with a lamp, and left him permanently disfigured.
