Mecosta County MI News - A 3-year-old child has been killed, and a mother and son have suffered serious injuries in a one vehicle crash that has taken place around 9:30 AM, this morning, in Fork Township.
According to a news release, the crash happened when a mini-van was driving westbound on 16 Mile Road just east of the intersection at 120th Avenue when the driver lost control, spun sideways and crashed into a tree by a ditch.
Deputy Karen Hard said the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office responded along with Mecosta County EMS, Chippewa Township Fire, and Fork Township Rescue.
Hard said responding units arrived on scene and began treating the crash victims.
The driver of the van, 47-year-old Katie Miller from Rodney, was ejected during the crash, but was able to talk with first responders. Miller and her two passengers, her 8-year-old son, and 3-year-old Whyatt Hatt from Sears, had severe injuries.
All three were taken to the Mecosta County Medical Center, but 3-year-old Whyatt Hatt was transferred a short time later to the DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. The next day, (Wednesday February 15th,) around 2:15 PM, 3-year-old Whyatt Hatt succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at the DeVos Children's Hospital.
As of 5:00 PM, (Wednesday February 15th,) Miller and her 8-year-old son remain in the Hospital in fair condition, according to Sgt. Mike Mohr from the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office.
