Yesterday, around 9:40 PM, the Saginaw County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 5600 block of South Chapin Road in Lakefield Township where a 73-year-old man drowned in Beaver Creek while walking his dog.

According to Sheriff William Federspiel, his deputies began searching for 73-year-old Hubert James Talaga from Merrill Michigan at the edge of Beaver Creek at the north side of a property in a remote location.

Federspiel said this area of the creek bank had a 20-25 foot steep drop down to the water's edge where Talaga apparently fell in, and was carried about 100 yards down stream.

The Jonesfield and Lakefield Fire Department used lifesaving measures, and retrieved Talaga from the water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
